Du, who formerly served with a special police unit and spent more than a decade as a police tactics instructor, began developing the equipment in 2024 after reviewing cases in which officers and restrained individuals were injured during incidents involving intoxicated or disruptive individuals. After more than 30 design iterations and field trials, the blanket was finalized at 70 centimeters wide and 180 centimeters long.
